Obesity Rates Double

No surprises here – obesity is on the rise.  Since 1980, obesity has doubled to nearly 10 per cent for men and 14 per cent for women.  The Pacific Island nations come in as the heaviest and the Japanese as the lightest as measured by the BMI.  The very image of your average Pacific Island man compared to a petite Japanese woman, highlights one of the failings of the BMI as a weight assessment tool.  Whilst in the developed countries, the US topped the BMI ratings, women in Belgium, France, Finland, Italy and Switzerland showed virtually no change in their BMI since 1980.
