Berries & Blood Pressure - Is there a Link?

Berries it seems may be beneficial in blood pressure reduction. A recent study was conducted looking at blueberry consumption and effect on blood pressure. It was found that those eating a serve of blueberries each week were 10% less likely to develop hypertension (high blood pressure) compared to those who didn’t consume blueberries.

It was identified that this was a result of the anthocyanin content which had a protective effect against hypertension. Anthocyanins are a type of anti-oxidant in the flavonoid group. Anthocyanins are present in many different foods including other berries such as strawberries, black currents and raspberries, and other fruit and vegetables like blood oranges and eggplants/brinjal.
